Let the training commence

So I have decided to attempt a half-marathon. Keep in mind, that I am coming into this very out of shape. And who knows the last time I exercised? But I decided to do it anyway. There also isn’t an ideal amount of time, it is on May 19th. We will see how it turns out. Anyway, in this journey, I have also set a weight loss goal (not to end at the half-marathon, because, well I’m not on the Biggest Loser here, I have other things to do than exercise) of 27 pounds. This seems like a weird number, but I weigh as of last week at the doctor 172. This will put me at 145 which is considered “healthy” for my height and age. This number could also vary depending on it makes me look. Like, if my ribs show, obviously that’s not healthy. I mostly just want to get rid of the excess I have on me. One of the major components of that is my soda drinking. I have considerably lowered my intake of Cokes. Whenever I was home, I would drink one for lunch and dinner. I have now cut it down to at most once a day and sometimes I don’t have one at all. I used to get headaches when I wouldn’t have one in a day, those no longer occur. Instead, I have probably doubled the amount of water I used to drink (Maybe tripled). Which isn’t saying much because I would only drink about one Camelbak bottle full of water. But hey, it’s a start. I have also been more conscious of what I am putting into my mouth. I have been eating more apples and oranges and less of stuffing myself on chips. There is still a lot of progress to be made in the food area of my life, but like I said earlier, you gotta start somewhere right?

Back to the training…

Friday 3/2— mostly walk with a few jogs thrown in 2 miles at the park. 35 minutes. How I felt: Fine, no pain. Like I said, I mostly walked so it wasn’t a big deal.

Sunday (today) 3/4 — 5 miles on a Kennesaw Mt. trail. I ran 1 mile, walked half a mile, ran a mile, walked 1 1/2 miles (with a few attempts at jogging thrown in there), and ran 1/2 mile. 90 minutes. How I felt: Tired, sore, and in pain. But I never stopped moving except once for my mom to catch up. This was pretty big for me. I also never got dizzy or faint or wanted to give up, which is also good news. Right now I am still a little sore but I know that the more I get used to it, the easier it will be. I am focused on that moment.

Monday (tomorrow) 3/5 — 4 miles down the road and back. I don’t know how I did or the time it took yet..

In order to not annoy everyone, I will keep these updates few. But for my sake, I will like to keep this journal. Between each post I will obviously write everything down so I can remember everything like the times and how I felt exactly.
